Moynalty welcomed Rathkenny in the fourth round of the championship Wednesday evening.
The game started with Rathkenny threatening the Moynalty goals. James McCabe ensured his team stayed in the contest with four excellent point blank saves in the opening twenty minutes. The game was nip and tuck with both teams putting together some lovely moves but unable to convert until Rathkenny got their well deserved goal before half time to put the visitors in the ascendency going into the second half.
Rathkenny tagged on a few early scores to put a bit of breathing room between the teams. A well worked goal from Danny Gorman brought Moynalty back into contention, accompanied by a great point from James Carville.
With Rathkenny protecting their lead and packing their defence, Moynalty had to work tirelessly to create scoring chances. Led by the industrious Leo Kavanagh and the probing running of Aaron Lynch and Bobby Kavanagh, Moynalty managed to answer Rathkenny’s scores.
The moment of the match came with one minute left on the clock and Moynalty trailing by three points, James McCabe left his goals to join the attack, got on the end of the attack and stuck the ball in the top corner of the Rathkenny net.
The work rate, never say die attitude and player decision making on the pitch earned the home side a deserved draw. Well done lads
