U13 Moynalty v Na Fianna

Friday 18th October

Moynalty 6-07 Na Fianna 3-08

The rain clouds parted, the air warmed up, and the floodlights came on for the final under 13’s game of the year.

A mixed year that ended in a great championship campaign for the lads in red and white, they needed the win to secure second spot in the group.

In the warm up Cormac reminded the players that tonight wasn’t the night for fancy footwork, but good clean football. Conditions were wet underfoot and despite the incredible facilities in Moynalty, it’s hard to get the bounce on wet ground.

The home side started well with a quick goal and a brace of points to settle all nerves that may have been lingering. It continued well for the home side for the remainder of the second half with some great passes and well worked plays. The Na Fianna net minder had a lot to do as Moynalty pressed hard. Moynalty finished the half with a comfortable lead.

The second half saw a reinvigorated Na Fianna team come out piling on the pressure on the home side, but ultimately left themselves with too much to do. A packed bench for Moynalty meant that fresh legs were available when needed, with younger lads more than willing to show their worth for the 13’s.

When the final whistle blew it was another win for Moynalty, and a great finish to a great campaign.

Best wishes to Oisín, Will, Owen, James, Hugh, James, Harry, Lorcan, and Ben as they move on to the 15’s next year.

Well done to the lads who are staying on for another year. They finished the season strongly and will carry that into the new season. Thank you to the lads who played up throughout the year. It can be hard to field sometimes, and without the younger lads stepping up there would have been games forfeited. In a small club it’s so important to have that degree of flexibility between teams and indeed coaches.

Finally a special mention to those men who stood on the sideline in wind and rain, sun and storms to bring this group of lads to where they are now. They put in a massive year and it really paid off. It takes a lot to coach any team. Time, dedication, patience and passion are very evident when you look at David, Cormac, and Barry. They gave it all this year. Juggling other commitments, setting up pitches in the rain, driving to the ends of the county, all to ensure that the 13’s had a good year.

Well done. Magh nÉalta abú 🔴⚪🔴⚪🔴⚪

Thank you to Anne Marie McKenna for the photography on the day
