U13 Boardsmill v Moynalty

As the Moynalty contingent left North Meath on Monday evening, it was blue skies as far as the eye could see. The drive to Boardsmill saw drivers needing sunglasses to fight off the glare. However, no one expected the downpour just before throw in. Adults dashing for the dugout while lads kept warm under jackets and geansaí’s.

Moynalty needed a win under their belts after their defeat to Curragha a fortnight ago.

The sight of Eamon Barry walking towards the middle of the field, slightly late and very wet, made the coaches stand slightly straighter as the game got underway.

Boardsmill were quick off the whistle and landed a ball in the back of the net with Moynalty left in a whirl of disbelief.

Moynalty, left reeling, starting playing ball. And that they did. Some great scores well taken by various players, some incredibly well worked plays, and some wonderful clearances from the backs left Boardsmill under pressure going into the dugout at the half time whistle.

A quick chat at half time and a shuffle of the deck, and the lads were ready to go.

The second half got underway and for the visitors it was more of the same. The rolling subs gave the players on the field a few minutes respite as the subs got stuck into the game.

The score line was very much like Moynalty, all to one side, but the game was played as if there was a score or two in it. End to end stuff from start to finish from both teams, and a well earned two points for the lads in red and white.

After the win against Longwood yesterday, James was delighted to see his young charges find their feet in this game. Great too, to see Eddie Coldrick on the far side line helping out with some great words of encouragement for the lads.

All in all a great game for Moynalty. Thanks to Boardsmill for hosting, but the game belonged to the lads who travelled and played with their hearts on their sleeves.
