The best conditions of the year were in Moynalty on Monday evening when the mighty men of Drumconrath came to challenge the Moynalty under 13’s.
Barely a breeze blew up or down the pitch as the referee threw in the ball. Drumconrath started well with a couple of tall lads leading the way. It took Moynalty a while to settle in and get to grips with the game, but that they did.
The sides traded scores in the first half as a packed Moynalty bench looked on cheering for their team mates. The referee was kept on his toes as he patiently explained the calls that he made.
Going into the break it was level pegging, but Moynalty had a lot of changes to make to give all the lads a run out. A half time talk settled the troops and out they went on the whistle.
Moynalty began to dominate the game as they took some lessons from the first half. Drumconrath, not to be outdone, piled the pressure on the home side and pushed them to the limit.
This group have been training as a team since early in the year and their cohesion was not in any doubt as they played well worked balls up for some well taken scores.
The back line worked well too with some impressive saves by both keeper and backs. The subs were notable in their contributions and the team as a whole showed how well they know each other with their passing and kicking game.
Overall a great game of competitive football between two evenly matched teams. Thank you to Drumconrath for coming down for the game. Hopefully we can repeat this match later in the season.
But the evening belonged to Moynalty. The lads played well as a team, showed what they are made of, and pulled together as a team when they needed to. After a tough few outings, the win- on such a lovely evening, was all the sweeter 🔴⚪🔴⚪🔴⚪
