Slane 2:04 Moynalty 0:07
Moynalty came up short against Slane in their opening fixture of the Tommy Dowd Oil Division 5 game played on Saturday afternoon. The weather made things difficult for both sides, with a cold breeze blowing and the cutting sun keeping scores to a premium. Slane eventually broke the deadlock and found the back of the net after 10 minutes, and doubled their scoreline 5 minutes later giving them a healthy 2 goal lead. Moynalty continued to battle back into the game, with Johnny Lynch and John Brogan both scoring a point in the remainder of the first half to leave the half time score Slane 2:00 Moynalty 0:02.
Moynalty continued to grow into the game in the second half, inspired by their goalkeeper Johnny Lynch who found himself busy at the opposite end of the field, scoring a well taken point from play, and another 45 as Moynalty continued to whittle down Slane’s lead. However it was just not the day for Moynalty, and this was summed up when Kian Lynch turned Slane’s defence inside out, won a penalty and saw his effort smack off the post. There were positives taken on the day, none more so than the introduction of Paul Lynch returning from injury 10 minutes before the end. Full time score Slane 2:04 Moynalty 0:07
Moynalty now have a quick turnaround before hosting Kilmainhamwood in the rearranged Round 1 fixture on Tuesday night.
