Moynalty 2-08 St Ultans 2-12
A young Moynalty side opened their Reserve Cup Division 3 campaign at home to St Ultans in windy and bitter conditions on Tuesday night.
Moynalty had their goalkeeper Tommy Owens to thank in the first half, with two one on one saves keeping the scoreline down for the away side. With just 10 minutes on the clock, Moynalty were forced into an early substitution as Pauric Reilly sustained an unfortunate head injury. Moving forward Moynalty struggled to break down the strong St Ultans defence, with James Lynch finding the sole score in the first half. Half time score Moynalty 0-01 St Ultans 1-08.
With the wind at their backs, the homeside were rejuvenated in the second half scoring 2-05 unanswered within the opening 15 minutes. Joe McMahon got the scoring spree off to a start, finding the orange flag for Moynalty’s first ever ‘2 pointer’. Eanna Bennett marked his competitive debut for Moynalty with a very impressive brace of goals soon after to give the home side a slender lead for the first time on the night. As the game drew to a close, St Ultans regrouped and regained control of the game. Two late scores from James Lynch weren’t enough as the full time score read Moynalty 2-08 St Ultans 2-12.
