Moynalty 2-09 Syddan 0-08
Moynalty hosted Syddan on Sunday morning in a “Winner takes all” clash for a spot in the semi finals of the Meath Cleaning Supplies Premier Football Championship Division 6.
It was Moynalty who came quickest out of the traps with two early points from Christy Cahill and Ronan McMahon, but they almost fell behind on 10 minutes when Syddan found themselves clean through on goal. Padraig Reilly cleared the ball off the line to deny Syddan a certain goal. Ollie Sheridan followed up with a quick fire goal and a point to put Moynalty 1-03 to 0-00 to the good. Syddan fought back with 3 quick points to half the deficit, and again Moynalty were grateful for a last ditch defensive block with Jake Smyth this time preventing a goal. Jack Farrell added a late point for the homeside to leave the Half Time score Moynalty 1-04 Syddan 0-03
The second half saw four different Moynalty point scorers in a row, including a well taken score from full back Michael Lynch on 42 minutes to put Moynalty 1-08 to 0-04 up. Much like the first half Syddan again hit back with three quick unanswered points to cut the difference to four points, but the 7 point cushion was restored when Ollie Sheridan found the back of the net for a second time with a well taken goal smashed across the keeper. Syddan saw a late penalty flashed wide as Moynalty ran out eventual winners 2-08 to 0-07. Moynalty now look forward to a semi final in the coming weeks, with opposition and date to be confirmed.
