Moynalty 1-06 Carnaross 1-10
Moynalty went into Saturday’s Junior B Final in high spirits, after only losing once all season to Slane in the Group stage of the League Division 5.
Moynalty’s early confidence showed from the get-go, with Pauric O’Connor rifling into the opposition net after only 20 seconds to give Moynalty a dream start. This was short lived however, with Carnaross finding a goal of their own after 2 minutes to restore parity on the scoreline. The first half remained a competitive affair, with both sides taking their points well and also defending well, however Johnny Lynch was called into action to prevent a big goal chance for Carnaross near the end of the half. Both sides went in at half time with the scores 1-03 a piece.
Carnaross dominated procedures in the second half, scoring 4 unanswered points in the opening quarter. Once again Adam Reilly proved to be the bedrock of Moynalty’s defence, turning over several balls and keeping Carnaross goal chances to a minimum. Joey and Richie Gilsenan in Moynalty’s defence also offered plenty of energy and legs, which allowed Moynalty to finally get off the mark 15 minutes into the second half through James Cassidy, however Carnaross proved too strong in the end. Carnaross ran out deserved winners on the day at a scoreline of 1-10 to 1-06. Moynalty’s influential captain Paddy Byrne went off temporarily with nasty head & hand injuries, and returned to play the closing minutes sporting a large head bandage. We wish Paddy all the best in his recovery.
It proves another unfruitful year for Moynalty on the Championship front as the long wait for a Championship success draws on. Del O’Brien’s side finish the year with the Tailteann Shield and a Division 5 League trophies in the bag.
Moynalty GFC would like to thank all the players, management and supporters for their efforts over the last 12 months. Despite today’s disappointing result, the parish was brought together by the team’s efforts over the last year and there remains no doubt that the lads have done us all proud on the pitch.
