By moynaltytreasurer Sun 11th May

J.M.B Sportsfield Services – Football League,

Division 4, Round 6

Moynalty 0-15 Gael Colmcille 1-12

Moynalty & the Gaels played out a highly entertaining game on Sunday morning, but it took a late Liam Barry goal to salvage a point for the Gaels, in truth Moynalty will feel they let this one slip as they lead by 4 points as we entered injury time. A quick kick out from Moynalty lead to a mistake for Barry to pounce with a very late goal.

The game opened brightly with a well worked score from Paul Lynch, but Kells responded with one of their own on 4 mins to level it up, a good move on 6 mins saw Bryan McCormack open his account but again the Gaels levelled it up, a brace of frees from Ollie Sheridan opened a gap and Moynalty seemed to be in control, however it was the Kells men who hit a purple patch and chances started to appear, Johnny Lynch in the Moynalty goal was again in outstanding form and made a good save to keep Moynalty in the game, as Kells continued to press they levelled up the game and then just before half time they went ahead, but Ollie Sheridan scored his third free kick to leave a half-time score,

Moynalty 0-06

Gael Colmcille 0-06

With Kells in the ascendancy they continued where they left off at the start of the second half, with the only 2 pointer in the game from a free on the left side, Sheridan scored another for Moynalty but Kells refused to let up and they maintained their 2 point gap with a free on front of goal, now in control, the Gaels were creating good chances and it took some brilliance from Johnny Lynch to keep them out with a superb save in 36 minute but Moynalty introduced the experienced Michael Lynch for Jude Gilsenan and he immediately started to gain possession this inspired the men in red as they started to win more ball around the middle of the field, Niall O Connor and young Sean McMahon in his first senior year started to dominate the game, and suddenly the flow changed, Paul Lynch and Bryan McCormack got scores and two more from Ollie Sheridan left Moynalty in control for the first time on the game, Dylan Farrelly and Cathal Donohue were now seeing more ball and opportunities were appearing, however Moynalty were sometimes wasteful on front of goal and didn’t put there neighbor’s away, with time almost up and the game looking like a good Moynalty win, Kells narrowed the gap to 3 points and on the resulting kickout Kells pounced on a short kick out to finish the ball to back of the Moynalty net to level up the scores.

Moynalty will no doubt be disappointed not claim all 2 points but there was positives, Ronan Lynch was introduced midway through the second half after a lengthy injury and put in a strong shift on his return and Nicholas McKenna who has had a torrid time with injury over the last 2 years was also impressive in the heart of the Moynalty defense, Paddy Burns is now back in full training and hopefully it wont be long before we see him back in the heart of the Moynalty attack.

On a day when we all hope Meath can win their 22nd Leinster title, it finishes all square here in Moynalty.
